MTCCCA 2007 Hall of Fame Biography

Mary Haskamp
Helias CC Coach since 1988.  Former girl’s TF Coach.  In cross country her teams have won 12 conference and 19 district title teams.  Mary has also had 11 state trophy teams including the boy’s state champions in 1990 and 26 All-State athletes. In TF, Mary had seven conference championships, eight district title teams and nine top four finishes with state champion teams in 96, 97 and 98.  Her 4X800 Relay teams include eight state champion teams and four runner-ups.  188 total All-State athletes and 15 state champions in track.  Several time MTCCCA COY and twice nominee for NHSACA COY.

Don Knapp
Rolla HS head boys and girls T&F and CC Coach since 1982.  Spent 5 years at Lebanon and 2 at Willow Springs before going to Rolla.  Past president of the MTCCCA. In track, 110 All-State athletes with 10state champions and 2 HS All-Americans. In CC, 13 All-State athletes including a state champion. Teams won 40 boys & girls conference championships in Track (23) & CC (17), 25 District plaque teams with 6 District Championship teams in Track and 1 in Cross Country. Has spoken at Track clinics, had articles published in Track magazines and Track  Omnibook. SWCCCA 2005 Coach of the Year. Springfield Parkview HS and SMSU graduate.

Tim Nixon
Liberty HS CC Coach.  In 28 years as the head boy’s coach, Tim has had 13 team appearances at the state meet bringing home nine state trophies and two state championships.  In 26 years as head girl’s coach he has had 22 team appearances including 6 state trophies and a state championship and over 40 All-State athletes.   His teams have been nationally ranked in the top 5 twice and has been a MTCCCA COY as well as a two time NHSCA finalist for COY.

Richard Samuels
30 years as a head track coach in the KC school district with one year at Paseo, 16 at Southwest and 13 Central.  Twenty-six years as head coach in CC at Southwest and Central.  His teams won 30 conference championships and were the 4A girls state champs in 2000 and 3A boys state champs in 2004 among his five state trophy teams.  Over 300 All-State track athletes with 38 state champions.

Dale Shepherd
A career educator in the Parkway School District where he is currently an assistant coach.  After 14 years as a JH track and cross country coach, spent a year as the head CC and boy’s TF coach at Parkway North before moving to Parkway West in 1983.  In his 15 years as head boys CC Coach and 13 as boy’s TF Coach and his teams qualified for the state meet each of those 15 years in cross country with eight top 5 finishes, two state championships and 20 All-State performers.  His track teams have had 41 All-State performances and three state champions.
