2002 Hall of Fame Biography

Dick Cook
Coached six consecutive state team titles for Crystal City in 2A girls track from 1984-1989.   Also had seven district team titles and 20 individual state champions. He was MTCCCA Coach of the Year six times and a regional nominee for national Coach of the Year.  In high school he was the state Class B champion in the 220 at Crystal City.  After running graduating from MU, where he also competed in track, Dick taught for 34 years and, in addition to Crystal City also has coached at Poplar Bluff and Herculaneum for a combined total of over 40 years.

Paul Enke
Coached and taught at Hazelwood-Central for 25 years where he was the head Girls CC coach from 1979 to 1997.  His teams won 19 consecutive conference and district titles with 10 top 4 finishes and 1 state title, 19 All-State runners, 3 state champions and the state record holder.  As assistant track coach he has had over 90 state medalist and three state record holders.  After two years as assistant CC coach at Ft. Zumwalt South, he became head coach in 2000 and has had 4 more conference champions.  The CC meet at Hazelwood Central is named in his honor.

Joey Haines
Southeast Missouri State University head track coach since 1982.  NCAA regional Coach of the Year seven times, Ohio Valley Conference or MIAA Coach of the Year 13 times, MTCCCA COY seven times and NCAA D-II National COY in 1987.  Has had 18 D-II top 4 finishes, 2 D-II national champion teams (one in CC and one in indoor track), coached 148 All-Americans and had 24 national champions. Joey served as MTCCCA President in 1996 and as President of the D-II NCAA Track Coaches Association in 1990-1991

Stan Nelson
Stan was a state medalist for Northwest HS of House Springs in the mile and 880 in 1961.  After attending college at Arkansas State, where he was captain of the CC and Track teams, he returned to Northwest as boys CC coach for 35 years (1965-1999).  Stan had district champion teams 25 times in a row with teams at state 29 times including three in the top 4.  As an assistant T&F coach, he had 20 district champion teams, coached 8 state event champions and over 75 individual state medalists.  The CC invitational at Northwest is named in his honor.

Ed Schneider
Men’s T&F and CC coach Truman State since 1974.  Ed was the national CC champ in the NCAA college division at Northeast Missouri in 1964 and was also an All-American in track in the mile.  He still holds the mile and 1500 records for Truman State.  Coached at Riverview Gardens before going back to Kirksville.  Ed has coached 52 All-Americans, had 13 MIAA team champions, has been a six time MIAA Coach of the Year and has had 2 top 4 team finishes at the NCAA D-II meet.  He is in both the NCAA D-II Cross Country Coaches and the Truman State University Hall of Fames.
